Stop and Smell the Roses

It's easy to lament the thorns on the roses... but do you ever think how amazing it is that there are roses among the thorns?

It's just a Monday in August. Take a moment to stop and smell the roses! It's a good way to follow the exhortation, "Be still, and know that I am God." See how He says "I love you" ?

Such a good reminder. I was reminded of this yesterday as I was rush, rush, rushing my kids into church. My daugther pulls me back as she stopped and smelled some potted flowers on the way into church. I humbly shook my head and chuckled, as I recognized it as a reminder to slooooow down. :)

Beautiful pictures, as usual. :)

The pictures wouldn't come up for me Rosezilla, but I caught the scent of roses, and I was still and I heard God whisper is my ear, I love you...

Thanks for your inspiration today.... I needed that.

Nice to meet you Rosezilla. I can see by your name and by your comments we have a few things in common. I am going to have to let God speak to me a bit on why roses have thorns...I am sitting here with thorn punctures all over my hands from some prunning I did this weekend. It is funny how I don't think much about the thorns till afterwards when my skin is sore...

Does anyone know why something as beautiful as a rose should have thorns?

Thanks for all your comments. I never liked to wear gloves to prune, because gardening gloves are so bulky - but I finally got mechanics' gloves, and they fit like, well, a glove! I can actually work in them.

As for the thorns, I guess it's just my optimistic nature or something, but I am more apt to think we are blessed because something as awful as thorns have roses! I suppose there are thorns on roses for the same reason there are illnesses, etc. in our beautiful lives - sin in the world, causing decay. Someday it'll be different!

Your point is well taken. Roses among the thorns....and not just beautiful to look at, but also to breathe deeply for the fragrance, if you are lucky enough to find roses that haven't had the scent bred out of them!
