The temperatures may be hot, but Florida is really a very cool place. Sure, we have insects...
And alligators, too
But where else will you see Mr. and Mrs. Whooping Crane walking down the sidewalk?
And, we have pelicans!
Of course, sometimes even pelicans can get a little wild.
But we have a trump card - the beach! Kind of puts everything in perspective, doesn't it?
(These are all photos taken by my family around Southwest Florida)

WOW you have married Whooping Cranes?? Fantastic. and Pelicans!!!
*packs bags to move next door to Mr & Mrs Whopping Crane!*
I love it that your family took all these pictures. My favorite is Mr. & Mrs. Whooping Crane. I had the most incredible experience with pelicans while swimming at Shell Island one day. There were schools of minnows and at least a hundred pelicans landed around me. Then the dolphins came. I felt like I was in a movie it was so amazing.
Great photos! Bugs are so photogenic, don't ya think. :o) Thanks for sharing such lovely photos of my former home State.
I love the Whooping crane photo. But have I mentioned that I adore pelicans? They are one of my very favorite things about Florida.
Ah yes...the beach...you win! ha-ha...but I have corn fields and cows! Doesn't really have the same ring to it, does it! :(
Wow! I loved your post and especially those cranes. That would be so cool to see them walking up the street like that. Awesome post!
Technicaly that second picture isn't an insect it is pure evil. That banana spider is number one on my hit list. I love the pelicans but they have started hanging around the good fishing spots and they try to grab the fish when you bring one in. Great shots.
Oooh PARADISE.. I am enjoying the birding up here - we have crows everywhere (pretty rare in Philly). I've seen a hawk, two types of woodpeckers and many jays. A man at the park even saw two turkeys the other day.
Ditto for SC...
Love the pictures...the cranes are too cute. I know some swans mate for life, wonder if cranes do?
The beaches are truly magical. Love those pelicans!
Wow - those are seriously neat photos! And to think you could see scenes like that every day is very cool. For about half of every year, I'd love to live in FL :)
I LOVE Florida. By far, of all the places I ever visited, this was my favorite. I would love to live there, so please enjoy it for me as well.;)xo
I'd love to have those cranes walking past my back door. Not so the alligator in the garden pond though! x
