Waving at the President

See that car right there? It holds the President of the United States of America. A second after this picture was taken, he was right beside my husband and me, waving at us!

It all started last night when my husband came home from work and saw barricades being left at each intersection on his route home. We knew the President was coming to our town, but no one on the news was permitted to say which of several routes he might take from the airport to the convention center for the Town Hall Meeting. But we were pretty sure we knew, so this morning we went down to a main intersection from the airport, and sure enough, there was this large flag!

We parked across from it, got out, and waited for an hour or so. A policeman with a dog came and checked for explosives in the ditch, and confirmed this was indeed the President's route. Other people began gathering as well, all talking excitedly - then my husband spotted Air Force One coming down low and circling around to approach the airport! Soon policeman began barricading the roads, giving instructions to the crowd. "Don't step out in to the road for any reason," we were sternly warned. Then suddenly, here came the entourage!

Then the Presidential limo passed just a few feet in front of us, flags flying, President inside waving right to us! The election is over - now he is our President. And it was an honor we will not forget.

Oh, I'm envious (in a good way). He was my senator, but I've never seen him in person.

Dear Rosezilla ~~ How great that the President waved to you and your husband. I wish him every success
in sorting out the problems ahead.
He also rang the Australian PM with sympathy about the fires in Victoria.
Thank you so much for your message and concern for the victims of this tragedy. The weather is much cooler, but with strong winds. Take care
my friend and thanks again for caring
Love, Merle.

Very cool! I use to live near DC and worked even closer... our delivery drivers always hated when GW would be out and about.

My only presidential siting was when Clinton came through my hometown and made a campaign stop in our downtown area. That was a crazy few days with Secret Service Advance teams and then everyone needing tickets to go to the speech.

My goodness, how exciting for you, and most definitely a day to remember. I remember back in the 1980s, when Princess Di visited our town, the whole place went crazy! x

Something you'll remember always, I'm sure. How exciting! Yes, Rosezilla, the election is over and he is your president, and high time that everyone accepted it and got on with things....

I was very honored to be a few feet from President George W. Bush in the very same way, a few years ago when he visited Columbia. My brother was able to have his picture made with him, and he cherishes both the photo and the memory. I dearly loved our brave President Bush and I miss him. God bless America.

Oh, Jennifer, I would have LOVED to see President Bush that closely! He came here, to the park, and I watched it on tv, which isn't the same but it was still exciting to know he was so close. I got to see Air Force One when the first Pres. Bush came here... and I saw Pres. Ford back in the 70s, got to play in the band at the airport when he arrived. Yes, I miss Pres. Bush too... I hope he's very happy at his ranch, he deserves a break.
